Christmas hearts in felt

Step 1

Download and print out the templates further down this page. Cut out the templates. 

Step 2

Place one of the templates onto the felt. You need to make two pieces in two different colours using the same size template. Since the felt is quite thick, you will not be able to fold it properly. Instead, you will have to sketch out the template twice in continuation of each other, laterally reversed. Use the white leather marking pen on the red felt and the black leather marking pen on the white felt.

Step 3

(Cutting the felt)

Cut out the felt pieces. Use a sharp knife. The edges of the felt will turn out straighter, when using a knife instead of scissors.

Step 4

Place the felt pieces on top of each other and make sure that the rounded parts are identical. Correct any unevenness by using a knife.

Step 5

(Handle)

Outline and cut out the handle.

Step 6

Braid the felt pieces together to create a heart.

Step 7

(Attaching the handle)

Thread your needle with sewing thread. Tie a knot on the thread and stick your needle through one of the ends of the handle. Place the right side of the handle against the innermost layer of felt on the heart. Make a stitch through the two layers, until the handle is firmly attached. Fasten the thread and cut off the excess. Repeat this process on the other side of the heart – make sure that the handle isn’t twisted.
