Leather keychain

Læder nøglering

Step 1

(Template)

A strap of leather measuring 1.7 cm x 22.5 cm with a thickness of 2.0-2.2 mm.

Læder nøglering - Step 1

Step 2

It is important to make sure that your leather strap is perpendicular in both ends.

Adjust the setting on your razor plier, so that it cuts perpendicularly. Cut the leather strap into 22.5 cm

You can also cut the leather using scissors or a knife.

Step 3

(Measuring and centring the holes)

The holes for the rivet must have a diameter of 3 mm.

Mark three holes. In one of the ends, there has to be a hole 4 mm from the edge.

In the opposite end, there has to be two holes - one hole 6 mm from the edge, and the other 35 mm from the edge.

Make sure that the holes are centred in the middle of the leather strap.
You could measure 7 mm and 10 mm inwards from one of the sides and make two markings.

Step 4

(Cut the holes)

Set your rotary leather punch to punch a hole measuring 3 mm.

Use your markings as a guide (the once you made 7 and 10 mm from the sides), so that the holes get perfectly centred on the strap.

Push down lightly with the rotary leather punch, without punching all the way through the leather, and make sure that you have placed the hole correctly. After this, punch the holes through the leather.

Step 5

(Tip for making your letters levelled)

You can easily make two different types of guiding tools. Cut a leather strip measuring 4 x 20 mm. This will centre the letters on the keychain.

Cut two pieces measuring 20 mm long and in the same width as your leather strip and glue them together. In this way, you will have something to push against (see step 7).

Læder nøglering - Step 5

Step 6

(Stamping a name)

You need to place the first letter about 2 mm from the edge of the end, where you've just punched a hole.

You can use the small leather strip measuring 4 mm to centre the letters. The top part of each letter has a small nick, which has to be facing you.

Læder nøglering - Step 6

Step 7

The next letter has to be placed, so that the edge of the stamp is adjacent to the letter, you have already made.

Læder nøglering - Step 7

Step 8

(Setting rivets)

Assemble you keychain folding the back of the keychain around the keyring and onto the front (see picture). Set your rivet.

Step 9

You have now finished making your keychain :)
