Snaps

Press fasteners/snaps are used as a closure mechanism on, for example, bags, purses and clothing. A press fastener consists of four parts, two parts for the upper part and two parts for the lower part. The size of the press fasteners is listed in millimeters and refer to the diameter of the press fastener’s head. We have four types of press fasteners in our range. Ordinary press fasteners, press fasteners 6S, auto press fasteners and auto-baby press fastener. There is a separate insertion tool for all four types of press fasteners. When you have chosen the size and type of press fastener you want, there will on the product page be provided a link to the correct tool.

Important!

Always make a test on a remnant of the material you are going to drive the press fastener into.

Tool for mounting all four types of press fasteners

When you install press fasteners, it is most optimal to use a slewing machine or a manual press with corresponding tool for the size and type of press fastener you have chosen. With

the slewing machine or the manual press, you ensure a hard and straight vertical pressure on the press fastener. But less can do it if you don't have access to one of the two machines.

For the different sizes and types of press fasteners, you can buy corresponding hand stamps.

If you want to hammer in the press fasteners with a hand stamp, you will need a hammer. And that is important to use a hard and stable surface, such as a garden tile, a chopping board or something else with a hard surface that does not move. If you work at a regular table, you must position yourself so that you hammer the press fastener just above the table leg, so that the tabletop does not bend. If you hammer in press fasteners in the middle of a table that bends when you hit it, it is impossible to get the push button to sit straight and properly.

Installation of press fasteners and press fasteners 6S

Before mounting the press fastener, you must make two holes. One for the two top parts and one for the two bottom parts. Make the holes either with a tong or a chisel.

The bottom part

The hole for the bottom part must be of a size so that the part with the “stick” can be easily inserted. - approx. 3 mm in diameter.

The upper part

The size of the hole for the upper part must be so large that the collar on the bottom part can

fit in the hole - approx. 5 mm in diameter. If the leather is much thicker than 2.2 mm, it is necessary to either make a larger hole, or skive the leather around the hole on the back – that is, remove a little leather around the hole to make the leather thinner and thus make it possible to fit the press fastener. Use a French skiver for skiving the leather around the hole.

Installation of auto press fasteners and “auto-baby” press fasteners.

The procedure is the same as on press fasteners and press fasteners 6S.
