These French-inspired chisels have very sharp blades and make perfect stitching holes even in thick leather. They are especially suitable for saddle stitch, as their prongs are at a 45-degree angle, which creates a uniform and neat seam. When using saddle stitch, first a crease must be made in the leather either by using a creaser or a wing divider, after which the chisel must be hammered through the crease with a rawhide maul. To get the same distance between all the stitching holes, one prong of the chisel must be put through the last hole from the previously made stitching holes.
