Raw rim has a raw, untanned central core, which makes the leather extremely hard when it is made wet and then dries. The warmer the water it is soaked in, the stiffer the finished result will be. Compared to regular vegetable tanned leather, raw rim shrinks more when wet forming.
The leather is typically used for wet shaping of knife sheaths or for orthopaedic purposes.
