Step 1

Cut the girth into 4 equally long pieces measuring about 100 cm each.

Step 2

Fold the four pieces in half and cut off the ends at a pointed or slanted angle. This makes them easier to weave.

Step 3

Press down the folded end with your lace roller or with your fingers to create a neater look.

Step 4

Intertwine the four strips by first placing one of the strips horizontally on your table. Next you place the second strip around the first strip. Then you take the third strip and place it around the second strip. Lastly you take the fourth strip and place it around the third strip. Pull at the ends of the straps, so they end up forming a square, as shown in the picture to the right.

Step 5

One of the two flaps of each strip has to be folded backwards. Start off with the top flap, then repeat the process with the flap to the left, then repeat the process with the third flap and lastly repeat do the same with the fourth and last strip. The flap of the last strip has to be secured and pulled underneath the first strip, which locks the strips in place. 

All the folds made in this step can be pressed with a lace roller or with your fingers.

Step 6

The left flap of each of the side has to be folded backwards into an angle.

Step 7

Pull the tip of the flap through the overlap to create a small triangular shape. Make sure that the edges of the girth don't crease.

Turn the star clockwise and repeat this process with the last three left-sided flaps.

Step 8

Flip over the star and repeat the exact same process with the last four flaps as described in step 6 and 7. Now you have create a flat star with eight points in total with two points on each side. Flip the top flaps on both sides of the star in the opposite direction as they are bend.

Step 9

Take the flap that is turned in towards yourself. Fold the flap backwards and turn it, so that it look like a shirt collar. Then stick the tip through the gap in the intertwined core of the star. Make sure that the edges of the girth don't crease. Turn the star counter-clockwise and repeat the process with the next flap.

Step 10

Fold the last flaps the same way. Flip the star and repeat step 9.

Step 11

Pull on the flaps to tighten the top part of the star. Tighten a little extra, before cutting off the excess tips of the girth at a slanted angle, following the angle of the pointed sides.

Straighten out the points again.

Now you have finished making your star ornament!
