A Chicago screw consists of two parts: an upper part with a cylinder and a lower part with a screw - both parts included.

The Chicago screw is used to join two or more pieces of leather, hide, Kydex or other materials.

Before attaching the screw, it is necessary to make a hole with a hole punch or a chisel in the layers to be assembled. The size of the hole must correspond to the diameter of the cylinder of the upper part.

Facts

Measurements - the upper part

• The diameter of the head of the Chicago screw: 10 mm

• The length of the head of the Chicago screw: 15 mm. This refers to the cylindrical part, and it matches the thickness of the material on which the Chicago screw will fit the best.

It is possible to mount the Chicago screw in a material that is 1 – 2 mm thicker, as the screw it is mounted with is 4 mm long. But it is important to ensure that the screw properly grips the thread on the upper part.

Diameter of cylinder: 5 mm, this determines the size of the hole you need to make in your material to fit the Chicago screw.

Measurements - the lower part

• Length of the screw: 5 mm

Material: Iron, treated with a surface finish

Advantage

• The Chicago screw can be easily installed and removed, as it is simply screwed together with a screwdriver.

• It is possible to purchase an extra-long screw of either 8 mm or 10 mm. The extra-long screw can only be used with this particular Chicago screw in the size 5 mm x 9 mm.
