A Bend is a long, narrow cut from the back of the hide and is particularly suitable when you need long straps in thick leather.

It is commonly used for belts, bag straps, dog leads and harnesses.

A Bend is a long, narrow cut of the hide. Its shape makes it possible to cut long pieces without joins, making it a good choice for projects where length is important.

What can Bends be used for?

Bends are particularly suitable for belts, straps, bag straps, dog leads, harnesses and other projects where long pieces of leather are needed.

Always check the properties and recommended uses of each product, as the different leather qualities can vary considerably.

Which thickness of Leather should I choose?

Bends are made from thick leather and are available from around 3 mm in thickness. A thickness of around 3–3.5 mm is a good choice for belts and bag straps when you want thick leather that is still relatively easy to work with.

For dog leads, around 3–4 mm can be suitable depending on the size of the dog. For heavier straps and harnesses, 3–4.5 mm is generally recommended depending on the intended use, for example for bridles or reins.
