When making stitching holes for saddle stitch, first make a crease with the help of either a creaser or a wing divider, after which the chisel must be hammered through the crease. When using chisels for making stitching holes, you ensure that all the holes are at a perfect 45-degree angle, and at the same time it is faster than having to pierce them individually with an awl. Use a rawhide maul to hammer the chisel through the leather without damaging the metal.
