Calfskin, Siena, 1.0-1.2 mm petroleum blue firm per pcs.

63,67 €

Siena is an exciting range of calf leather with a decorative crocodile embossing that gives the leather a distinctive look. The range offers a wide selection of colours, textures and finishes – from matte and natural to glossy and patent finishes.

All hides feature a crocodile-embossed pattern, but the design and depth of the embossing vary. Some have a subtle pattern embossed into the leather, while others feature a more pronounced texture, enhanced by a glossy or patent finish.

The hides also vary in firmness. The soft, chrome-tanned hides are supple and flexible, while the vegetable-tanned hides have a firmer structure, making them ideal for projects where the leather needs to hold its shape.

Facts

  • Size: One whole hide measures approx. 80 × 110 cm, corresponding to approx. 11–14 sq. ft. Measurements are approximate, as leather is a natural material and each hide follows the natural shape of the animal. Both shape and size may therefore vary.

Use

Siena is suitable for a wide range of leathercraft projects where the crocodile embossing adds a decorative touch.

The leather can be used for bags, wallets, cases, small accessories and decorative details on belts and other leather goods.

The soft hides are particularly suitable for projects that require flexibility, while the firm hides are ideal for items that need to hold their shape.

The crocodile embossing also makes Siena a great choice for combining with smooth leather, creating an attractive contrast between the different textures and finishes.

Sides

A Side includes both the firm leather along the back and the more flexible leather around the belly. This gives you a large piece of leather with different characteristics.

When cutting a Side, it is important to consider where you place the different parts of your project, as the leather varies across the hide. Parts that need strength and stability are best cut from the area closest to the back, while smaller projects and parts can be cut from the belly area.

What is a Side?

A Side is one half of a full hide, cut along the back. It includes both the firmer leather along the back and the more flexible area towards the belly. Thickness, firmness and structure can vary across the Side. At the same time, the large piece of leather gives you plenty of room to place both larger and smaller pattern pieces.

What can a Side be used for?

Sides can be used for many different projects. What the leather is suitable for depends mainly on its thickness, tanning and firmness. Sides can be used for bags, wallets, cases, home accessories and many other leatherwork projects.

Always check the properties and recommended uses of each product, as the different leather qualities can vary considerably.

How to make the most of a Side

When working with a Side, it is a good idea to think about where you place the different pattern pieces. The area along the back is typically firmer, while the leather towards the belly can be more flexible and stretchy.

Parts that need the most firmness and stability are best cut from the firmer areas, while other parts can be cut from the more flexible areas.

Not sure which cut or thickness is right for your project? We are always happy to help you find the right leather.
